How to Make Your Hair Strong, Soft, And Shiny
If you constantly wish you had your friend’s thick, luscious mane, or you’re always complaining about your dull hair and split ends, it’s time to do something about it. Stop mistreating your hair with all that hard brushing, combing and blow-drying. Believe it or not, you can have healthy, shiny hair that others will envy with proper care. Even if thin, flat hair runs in your family, your hair can benefit greatly from a little extra tender, loving care.
Instructions
1
Be gentle with the comb and brush. Excessive brushing and combing will cause your hair to break, especially when it is wet. This causes split ends which leave your hair dry and brittle. Use wide-tooth combs and softer brushes for dry hair. Use a lot of conditioner on your hair in the shower. This will help make the hair easier to detangle. Always start detangling small sections of hair from the bottom and working your way up. Firmly hold the hair above where you are detangling to prevent ripping your hair out from the root.
2
Avoid too much heat. As convenient as the blow dryer is on busy mornings, daily use (along with flat irons and curling irons) is detrimental to the health of your hair. Heat weakens the hair shaft, making it susceptible to split ends and breakage. Space out your heat use by going with the tousled, towel-dried hair look on some mornings. If you must use heat on your hair, at least protect it first with silicone-based hair protection spray. The silicone bonds to you hair and acts as a barrier from the heat.
3
Use the right conditioners. Use a silicone-based shampoo if your hair is badly damaged, as it is also useful in making your hair flexible and less prone to breaking. You should also deep condition at least once every two weeks. A deep conditioner is meant to stay on your hair for at least several minutes, allowing it to penetrate deep inside the hair shaft, strengthening from the inside out. This is one of the times when heat is actually a benefit, as well. If you sit under a hooded dryer while deep conditioning your hair, the heat will open up your hair cuticles, allowing the conditioner to get deeper into your hair.
4
Use shine-enhancing products. For a boost of shine, combine a shine serum product meant to boost your hair’s shine with your conditioner when you are in the shower. You’ll get a longer lasting shine this way rather than using the product alone on dry hair. For a homemade shine booster, combine 1 egg with 1 tbsp. honey and 2 tbsp. olive oil and apply to your hair after shampooing. Leave it on for five minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
5
Trim your hair regularly. This helps to get rid of some of the split ends. If you are just starting to really take care of your hair, you should begin to see a noticeable difference in your hair as your healthier new hair is growing in at the roots, and the dried and fried split ends are being trimmed away every several weeks. Unless you are trained, don’t attempt to trim your ends yourself, as you may end up cutting your hair unevenly. Leave the trimming to the professionals.
