Frizzy Hair Product Recommendations
Tired of frizzy hair product that doesn’t live up to it’s claims?
We understand the frustration of investing hard-earned dollars into yet another product that ends up in the back of a cupboard, unused. And STILL having to deal with the annoyance of fuzzy hair.
But there are products that work. Really! Products that are worth every penny. This page lists some of the most effective product choices and the best tools for smoothing hair that tends to frizz.
You’ll also find links to specific techniques and general advice for dealing with this troublesome hair texture.
PRODUCT CHOICES
SMOOTHING SHAMPOO/CONDITIONER
Frizz-free hair starts with the right cleansing and conditioning products. These ones are formulated for dry, rough, frizzy textured hair.
Towel dry your hair before applying the conditioner so that your hair absorbs as much as possible for maximum benefits.

LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER
Some leave-ins are better than others for frizzy hair. This one is a proven winner for smoothing rough texture and making hair shine.
A light-weight leave in that detangles and helps combat frizz. This is a great product for dry, over-stressed hair.
It softens the hair and contains a bunch of natural anti-oxidant ingredients to protect tresses from the harsh realities of life (i.e., sun, wind, pollution).
For a bit more curl definition, use this first and then a styling product (see below).

STYLING PRODUCTS
One or two of these styling products is all that’s necessary, depending on your preferences.
MoroccanOil
Hydrating Styling Cream
MoroccanOil Hydrating Styling Cream
This conditioning, styling cream helps calm frizz and define curls. It’s fantastic for medium to coarse textured hair but could be a little heavy for fine hair.
If you hair is curly, this will soften and smooth your curls and keep the frizz at bay. Straighter hair types will notice hair is much more shiny and mangeable. A client recently stated that her hair ‘whips around with authority’ after using this.
Aside from its performance, the intoxicating scent of this product (like most of the moroccan oil line) sets it apart. Really. It smells incredible!
Aveda Brilliant
Anti-Humectant Pomade
Aveda Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade
If you live in an overly humid climate, an anti-humectant pomade may be just the thing to help smooth your frizzies. It repels moisture from the hair and helps to calm “lively” hair.
Beware though… this product can be weighty (and feel greasy) on fine to medium textured hair. It’s best for thick, coarse hair.
You don’t need much, and it should be well emulsified (rubbed in) in your hands before applying. Smooth the product over the surface of your hair, focusing on the most frizzy areas.
CHI Straight Guard
Smoothing Styling Cream
CHI Straight Guard Smoothing Styling Cream
This is a great-smelling cream styler that helps calm frizz and add shine. It’s a good option for those who sometimes heat style (i.e., flat irons, hot rollers, etc.) and sometimes don’t.
This product works well for both thermal styling and simply letting your hair dry naturally. Apply to towel dried hair before styling. It’s light enough that it doesn’t weigh hair down or feel obvious in the hair. Hair is easier to comb through and more manageable from wet to dry.
MORE PRODUCT OPTIONS
If your hair is fine use a thickening or volumizing product at the roots and underneath, and a light silicone or smoothing frizzy hair product (like those mentioned above) on the surface and through to the ends.
Keep in mind that silicone-based products and pomades don’t have any holding ability.
If you want hold and shine (who doesn’t) mix a nice little puddle of gel and liquid silicone together in your palm and apply everywhere, this way you can change the ratio depending on your needs. For an all-in-one solution, Sebastian Potion 9 Wearable Treatment is a great and versatile frizzy hair product. It’s a nice slippery conditioning product with just enough hold factor and can be used before, during, or after styling.

Tools for Smoothing Frizzy Hair
A natural or boar bristle brush will work the best on frizzy hair. They have a very smoothing effect, but they can be a real pain in the arm to get through your hair.
Do yourself a favor, get a hot air brush to smooth out the majority of your hair. Then use the boar bristle brush just on the most visible sections (top/around face/ends).
A hot air brush will give you the same effect as using a round brush and blow dryer with much less struggle.
Make sure that your hair is at least 80 to 90 percent dry before you start shaping it with the hot air brush.
If your hair is too wet you’ll miss out on all the benefits of this fabulous tool, which is made for shaping rather than drying your hair.
