Hair Layers For Common Face Shapes

“Hair Layers and
Face Shapes”
Most every haircut has layers these days. But if you’re thinking of trying some on—or changing the type of hair layers you’ve been wearing—you need to consider your face shape. Michael White, head hairdresser on the ABC hit Brothers Sisters, offers these tips:

  • HAIR LAYERS FOR NARROW FACE SHAPES: “It’s important to create movement that will open it up, something you can do with texturizing along the cheekbones. Hair layers should start at brow level and work their way down.”
  • HAIR LAYERS FOR ROUND FACE SHAPE: ‘The jawline is a good guide for breaking up says DuBose. “If you’ve got hair that’s medium to long, start the hair layers the chin or jaw line and work down to the collar. If your hair is short, ask your hairdresser to layer it from the brow to the jaw line.”
  • HAIR LAYERS FOR SQUARE FACE SHAPE: Softening the jaw is key. ‘Wispy hair layers that begin at the cheek or just below it are perfect for playing down a strong jaw.” For more see my article Hair Styles for a Square Face.
