Get In Touch with Your Roots . . . Embrace Your Beautiful Grays!

Young and old, the red carpet is filled with celebs going “50 Shades of Gray” and loving it! What do they all have in common? Fabulous style and fabulous self confidence!

Taylor Swift recently caught media attention when she said, “I’m going to let my hair go gray when I’m older, I don’t need to be blonde when I’m 60.” Of course, that’s an easy statement to make when you’re 20 something, however, a number of her older sisters in the business are embracing that idea  now. More and more stars are opting to go natural with their hair color letting their “true colors show,” and those colors come in a variety of beautiful grays.

Thinking of taking the plunge yourself, but don’t know how you are going to pull it off? Thank the stars for talented hairdressers who can tailor this transition to your specific needs. You need to have a ”heart-to-heart” with your hair stylist on what your best options are for making the transition to gray hair color. In order to keep your hair healthy, they may recommend doing this gradually instead of all at once. One thing is for sure (and you would think this would go without saying), it’s ALWAYS a bad idea to simply to let your roots grow out!

Let’s face it, gray hair color inevitably projects an air of maturity, but that doesn’t mean gray hair = OLD! Here are some tips that will make your transition to a gray hair color, chic and relevant.

Don’t: Wear a hairstyle you wore ten years ago ~~ One thing that I emphasize to my gray haired clients, is the importance of having a super sleek and modern haircut and style. A great hairstyle keeps your look fresh and timeless rather than looking like you’re  from another decade. Be sure to ask your hair stylist to recommend the styling products you need to get it to look.

Do: Embrace makeup ~~ Gray hair can make you look washed out, especially as you age and your skin tone changes. Counter-balance that with a pretty blush, a painted pout, and a touch of eyeshadow. This keeps the attention on your beautiful face. If you feel clueless about makeup, visit a cosmetic counter and ask for good colors to go with your skin tone and hair color.

Do: Wear bold jewel tones in clothing, earrings, necklaces or bracelets ~~ Offset your cool gray mane with some bold colors, they will add warmth to your over-all look. Have some fun and express yourself with pretty plums, emerald greens, or regal blues.

Do: Try a Toning Shampoo ~~ Gray hair can have a tendency to become dull looking. Brighten up with a toning shampoo and/or conditioner with violet undertones. The violet will pull out those drab yellow undertones and make your color vibrant.

Whether you’ve been trying to cover your grays for years, or are just starting to notice them peaking though, now is a great time to embrace your gorgeous gray hair color! Going natural means spending less time coloring your hair, and more time enjoying life as the silver fox you are!
