Real Hair Extension Clips Need Good Care

Of course we all adjust our hair care routine for winter hair, but your real hair extensions clips need special winter care as well. While it’s toasty and warm inside, it’s cold outside. Not only can the cold be bad for hair and real hair extension clips, the extreme temperature changes we experience in winter can do its damage, as well. Both cold and warm weather can take away the moisture in your hair and hair extensions, drying them out and making them prone to more damage.

So what can you do to prevent damage from happening to your hair extensions? The sooner you start preventative care the better. Not only will it help you get into the routine, but it will help you keep up the quality of the extensions.

Start by using a shampoo or conditioner with cetyl alcohol, a derivative of coconut, which works extremely well in moisturizing your real hair extensions. In that same note, shampoo lightly and make sure you use more conditioner than shampoo. Real hair extension clips will dry out more easily than your natural hair. They don’t get the natural oil from your scalp so they need extra moisture and protection. Always rinse with cool or cold water to enhance the amount of moisture retained.

Another great tip is never walk out in the cold with wet hair. If you walk out into the cold with wet hair, you take a big chance of the water in your hair and the water in your hair extensions freezing and causing damage and even breakage due to the extreme temperatures. Remember, the temperature of freezing is around 32 degrees and that is generally when snow and ice will start to stick to the ground. So, if you walk out with wet hair and hair extensions in that weather, the cold is more than likely to make the water in the extensions turn into ice also.

Try your best to decrease the amount of heat applied to your extensions with any heated styling appliances. The warmth from heaters is enough to help dry your hair extensions – if you use heated styling appliances, you chance damaging your hair extension clips, which can’t be fixed. If you must use a heated styling appliance, make sure you use a heat protector and leave-in conditioner before styling. The leave-in conditioner will allow your hair to retain essential moisture.

If you wear a hat make sure it is not too tight and take off the hat as much as possible to keep irritation down and to allow your scalp to breathe. Another thing you can do to protect your hair from heated styling appliances is to experiment with different hair masks to help keep your hair and hair extensions healthy.

Consider adding darker coloured real hair extension clips this season to add dimension and volume to your hair and to change your summer bright hair colour to a deeper, cooler shade for winter. Hair extensions are fun and a great way to add more hair and change things up!
